Autochthon is a Greek word meaning ‘of the earth’ and has come to mean aboriginal inhabitant. Autochthon was the name of the youngest of the third pair of twins fathered by Poseidon, as recorded by Plato. Autochthon has been linked(a) with the Phoenician pantheon. Thorwald Franke argues that Plato’s Autochthon was king of the Sicani who partly occupied Sicily at the time of the Sea Peoples.
