Ammianus Marcellinus (330-395 AD) was a Greek historian, and well known to the Emperor Julian. Marcellinus wrote that the ‘intelligentsia’ of Alexandria in his era considered the destruction of Atlantis historically correct. He described a class of earthquake that suddenly swallows up large tracts of land as had happened in the Atlantic to a large island.
