He was also a <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DillerHans.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-35007\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DillerHans-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DillerHans-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DillerHans-768x1075.jpg 768w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DillerHans-731x1024.jpg 731w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/DillerHans.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/><\/a>student of the Greek tragedians and co-authored works about Sophocles. His scholarship resulted in an honorary doctorate from the University of Athens being awarded in 1962. He was professor of classical philology at Kiel University until his retirement<sup>(a)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>In 1953 he published <em>Der Atlantisbericht ein Platonischer Mythos, <\/em>in which he suggested that Plato\u2019s Atlantean war was a \u2018fictional parallel\u2019 to the Greco-<a title=\"persian war\" href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/persian-war\/\">Persian wars <\/a>(500-449 BC). As these conflicts took place <em><strong>before<\/strong> <\/em>Solon visited Egypt, so, for Plato to name him as a source would have been an obvious and foolish lie.<\/p>\n<p>Diller\u2019s theory followed the views of <a title=\"schulten\" href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/adolph-schulten\/\">Adolf Schulten<\/a>, but was dismissed by <a title=\"spanuth\" href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/spanuth-dr-jurgen\/\">J\u00fcrgen Spanuth<\/a><sup>[<\/sup><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/s\/\">015<\/a><\/sup><sup>.16]<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><sup>(a)<\/sup> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hans_Diller\">Hans Diller &#8211; Wikipedia<\/a> <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">*<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hans Diller (1905-1977) was a German classical scholar with a particular interest in ancient Greek medicine.
