{"id":12744,"date":"2010-10-13T10:35:55","date_gmt":"2010-10-13T10:35:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/?p=12744"},"modified":"2024-08-20T09:02:43","modified_gmt":"2024-08-20T08:02:43","slug":"rittstieg-joachim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/rittstieg-joachim\/","title":{"rendered":"Rittstieg, Joachim *"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Joachim<\/strong><strong> Rittstieg <\/strong><strong>(1937-2014) <\/strong>was born in Berlin and was a retired schoolmaster, although that bastion of truth and accuracy, <em>Fox News Latino, <\/em>describe him as a professor emeritus at Dresden University.<\/p>\n<p>He spent six years with his family in Central America and after decades of study, he claimd to have decoded <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/joachim-rittstieg.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-27872\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/joachim-rittstieg.gif\" alt=\"joachim rittstieg\" width=\"142\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a>all the Mayan calendars and published the results in 1999 in <em>ABC der Maya<\/em><sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/n-r\/\">717<\/a>]<\/sup>. Rittstieg combined information he has gleaned from The Icelandic <em>Eddas<\/em>, Plato, Mayan calendars as well as oral sources and concluded that the capital of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/atlan\/\">Atlan<\/a>, which he equates with Atlantis, can be found submerged in Lake Izabal in <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/guatemala\/\">Guatemala<\/a>. He also reveals that the sinking of the city took place on 30<sup>th<\/sup> October 666 BC. But there is more<sup>(a)<\/sup> the sunken city also has a cache of over 2,000 gold tablets on which the \u2018Laws of Atlan&#8217; are inscribed. Rittstieg wants someone to invest \u20ac3,000,000 in the recovery of this booty!\u00a0 I would expect the Guatemalan government would have something to say about such an operation.<\/p>\n<p>He also claimed that the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/maya\/\">Maya<\/a> and the Vikings had contact for nearly 500 years (754-1224 AD)<sup>(f)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>A rather critical review of Rittsteig\u2019s ideas by Swedish commentator can be read online<sup>(d)\u00a0<\/sup>as well as another that is slightly more technical<sup>(e)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Coincidentally, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/mccullough-duane-kent\/\">Duane McCullough<\/a>\u00a0has also identified Lake Izabal as the location of Atlantis.<em>\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>On March 1<sup>st<\/sup> 2011 it was reported<sup>(b) <\/sup>that an expedition, sponsored by the German tabloid newspaper <em>Bild,<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>led by Rittstieg had headed for Guatemala in search of the gold.
