{"id":131,"date":"2009-11-18T15:30:34","date_gmt":"2009-11-18T15:30:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/?p=131"},"modified":"2026-02-12T17:05:17","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T17:05:17","slug":"louis-germain-new","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/louis-germain-new\/","title":{"rendered":"Germain, Louis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Louis<\/strong><strong> Germain <\/strong><strong>(1878-1942)<\/strong> was a French zoologist who was among a number of commentators during the early part of the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century that identified Atlantis as a continent in the Atlantic,<b> <\/b>connected to the Iberian peninsula and what was\u00a0later known as Mauritania in North-West Africa together with the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/azores\/\">Azores<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/canary-islands\/\">Canaries<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/cape-verde-islands\/\">Cape Verde <\/a>archipelagos<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/g\/\">0886<\/a>]<\/sup>. \u00a0He based his views on a study of molluscs on those islands, as well as his suggested ancient links with the European and African mainlands.
