{"id":13240,"date":"2010-11-13T09:31:25","date_gmt":"2010-11-13T09:31:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/?p=13240"},"modified":"2019-12-06T08:07:57","modified_gmt":"2019-12-06T08:07:57","slug":"forbes-edward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/forbes-edward\/","title":{"rendered":"Forbes, Edward"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Edward <\/strong><strong>F<\/strong><strong>orbes <\/strong><strong>(1815-1854) <\/strong>was a naturalist from the Isle of Man who became president of the<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Edward_Forbes.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-26133\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Edward_Forbes.jpg\" alt=\"Edward_Forbes\" width=\"220\" height=\"267\" \/><\/a> Geological Society of London in 1853 and the following year was appointed professor of natural history at the University of Edinburgh. Unfortunately, his tenure was short lived as he died within less than a year.<\/p>\n<p>Forbes was one of the first, in 1846<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/bibliography\/e-f\/\">1471<\/a>]<\/sup>,\u00a0to hypothesise the existence of a continent in the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/atlantic-ocean\/\">Atlantic<\/a> linking <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/ireland\/\">Ireland<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/azores\/\">Azores<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/iberia\/\">Iberian<\/a> Peninsula, and that this was popularly called &#8216;Atlantis&#8217;.
