Paulo Riven<\/strong> (1961- ) is a researcher from the island of\u00a0 Terceira in the Azores archipelago, who claims to be a descendant of the Portuguese royal family. He is a regular contributor to a number of Atlantis-related websites. Since 2003 he has been advocating the Josephine Seamount, NNE of Madeira, as the location of Atlantis(c)<\/sup>. He contends that Atlantis first suffered a catastrophic event in 6482 BC(d)(e)\u00a0<\/sup>and was finally destroyed in 3926 BC. He believes that the Maya and other native Americans are descendants of Atlantean survivors, while others escaped to Europe and Africa.<\/p>\n

While his theories are as valid as many others they are often confusingly presented. Riven\u2019s ideas on other subjects, such as religion, are inclined to be distinctly idiosyncratic if not downright bizarre. He has put a lot of work into his website(a)<\/sup> and there is no doubting his sincerity. However, I believe that he should present evidence in a more structured fashion instead of just offering a series of cranky disjointed assertions.<\/p>\n

It is somewhat disturbing to read his latter-day anti-semitic ramblings such as “<\/em>Today the Phoenician Scythians are headed by the ZWO (Zionist World Order) known as the NWO or New World Order of today\u2019s Ash-ke-Nazi German Jewish Zionists who dominate 2\/3rds of our World today.”<\/em> (b)<\/sup><\/p>\n
