More specifically, he speculated that Atlantis might be found under the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/sargasso-sea\/\">Sargasso Sea!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He believed that the influence of Atlantis could be detected in the Americas, Egypt and the Canaries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In a later book, <em>Histoire de la d\u00e9couverte de l\u2019Am\u00e9rique <\/em><sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"#A1436\"><sup>1436<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup><em>,\u00a0<\/em>he recorded a belief among the native Caribs of the southern Caribbean islands that the Antillies were once a single landmass, with a similar tradition found in Haiti.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Paul Gaffarel wrote a number of papers between 1875 and 1890 on pre-Columbian trans-Atlantic voyagers from Europe. He presented a 38-page paper on the Phoenicians&#8217; voyages to America to the\u00a0<em>Congr\u00e8s International des Am\u00e9ricanistes<\/em> in Nancy (France) in 1875.
