He seemed to be inclined to place Plato\u2019s island in the Atlantic and saw the submergence of land around the British Isles at the end of the last <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/ice-ages\/\">Ice Age<\/a> as the most likely explanation<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/m\/\"><sup>459<\/sup><\/a><sup>.90<\/sup><sup>]<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>In the same volume he touched on the Atlantic landbridge theories of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/scharff-r-f\/\">Scharff,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/hull-edward\/\">Hull<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/brasseur-de-bourbourg-charles-etienne\/\">Brasseur de Bourbourg<\/a>. However, Mackenzie did accept the\u00a0previous year&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/schliemann-paul\/\">Paul Schliemann <\/a>hoax.<\/p>\n<p>In his <em>Myths and Traditions of the South Sea Islands,<\/em>he dismisses the idea of a lost Pacific continent as existing only <em>\u201cin the imaginations of writers untrained in scientific method.\u201d<\/em><sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/m\/\"><sup>1030<\/sup><\/a><sup>.5]<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>One of his many books, <em>Myths of Crete and Prehistoric Europe<\/em><sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/m\/\"><sup>460<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup>, which contains a chapter on the possibility of a <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/crete\/\">Cretan<\/a> connection with Atlantis, is available on the internet<sup>(a)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><sup>(a)<\/sup> <a href=\"https:\/\/earth-history.com\/Greece\/Myths\/mckenzie-05.htm\">https:\/\/earth-history.com\/Greece\/Myths\/mckenzie-05.htm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Donald Alexander Mackenzie (1873-1936) was a renowned mythologist of the early 20th century who referred to Atlantis on a number of occasions.
