He has been described as a specialist in Mesopotamian astronomy, who<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span>believed that this spectacular event was witnessed and recorded by the<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/sumeria\/\"> Sumerians <\/a>around 4000 BC<sup>(b)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>A refutation of Michanowsky\u2019s views by Duane Hamacher of Missouri University is available online<sup>(a)(c)<\/sup>. <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wilson-ian\/\">Ian Wilson<\/a> in <em>The Exodus Enigma<\/em> refers to the further controversy that Michanowsky was involved in when he accused the renowned Egyptologist, Dr Hans Goedicke of falsifying a translation of hieroglyphics that possibly related to the tsunami that followed the eruption of Thera<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/w-z\/\"><sup>0979<\/sup><\/a><sup>.137]<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>His book\u00a0goes much\u00a0further and claims that the Sumerians had known Atlantis under the name of NI-DUK-KI, known today as <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/dilmun\/\">Dilmun<\/a>. The renowned Henry Rawlinson interpreted this name to mean \u2018blessed hill\u2019 or \u2018blessed isle\u2019. While Michanowsky\u2019s suggestion is highly speculative, if correct, it would be the earliest known reference to Atlantis.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly twenty years later <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/allan-delair\/\">Allan &amp; De<\/a>lair published <em>When the Earth Nearly Died <\/em>(later republished as <em>Cataclysm<\/em><sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/a\/\">014<\/a>]<\/sup>), in which they also nominate the Vela supernova as the source of ejecta which nearly destroyed our Earth. However, they date the event to 9500 BC and its encounter with Earth was recorded in mythology, for example, known as <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/phaeton\/\">Pha\u00ebton<\/a> by the Greeks and referred to by Plato.
