{"id":1578,"date":"2010-05-24T15:35:31","date_gmt":"2010-05-24T15:35:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/?p=1578"},"modified":"2026-02-08T16:48:58","modified_gmt":"2026-02-08T16:48:58","slug":"forrest-herbert-edward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/forrest-herbert-edward\/","title":{"rendered":"Forrest, Herbert Edward"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Herbert Edward<\/strong><strong> F<\/strong><strong>orrest<\/strong> was a Welsh naturalist who endeavoured to convince his readers<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/e-f\/\"><sup>298<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> that a landbridge had existed across the North Atlantic <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/H.E.Forrest.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-21375\" style=\"border: 4px solid black;\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/H.E.Forrest-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"H.E.Forrest\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/H.E.Forrest-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/H.E.Forrest.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>within the memory of humans and that it\u00a0had been the location of Atlantis.\u00a0His book includes a speculative map showing Atlantis at the time of the last Ice Age.<\/p>\n<p>Others, in the early part of the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century, supported this suggestion, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/scharff-r-f\/\">Dr. R. F. Scharff<\/a> although the idea was strongly opposed by the likes of William Diller Matthew(1871-1930),\u00a0professor of palaeontology at the University of California<sup>(a)<\/sup><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">. <\/span>Eventually, this ill-founded idea of an Atlantic landbridge during the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/holocene-epoch\/\">Holocene Era<\/a> sank from view and has no serious support today.<\/p>\n<p>However, an interesting review of Forrest&#8217;s book was published in 2015 by Ferdinand Speidel on the Atlantisforschung website in German.
