{"id":16589,"date":"2012-02-17T10:17:44","date_gmt":"2012-02-17T10:17:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/?p=16589"},"modified":"2020-02-05T15:14:40","modified_gmt":"2020-02-05T15:14:40","slug":"roipa-n","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/roipa-n\/","title":{"rendered":"ROIPA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ROIPA <\/strong>is an acronym for the original Russian title\u00a0of\u00a0the <em>Russian Society\u00a0for\u00a0the Study\u00a0of Problems\u00a0of Atlantis<\/em> which is the leading association in the Russian\u00a0Federation for the study of Atlantology.<\/p>\n<p>It was formally established in 2003 although it has its roots in the early 1990\u2019s. Since then it has organised three congresses of Atlantologists, published papers and books including its recent <em>Cronos<\/em>\u00a0almanac<em>. <\/em>There is also an ongoing programme of lectures.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/voronin-alexander-n\/\">Alexander Voronin <\/a>was the president of ROIPA and I had the pleasure of meeting him in Malta in 2011. Sadly, Alexander died November 6th 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Membership of ROIPA is normally confined to Russian citizens, so I was greatly flattered when I was given honorary membership of the organisation in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2014, I was contacted by the new president of ROIPA, George Nefediev, who informed me that the work of the society was back on track and has already held a conference in\u00a0December, 2013. They are currently developing a new website<sup>(a)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Later in 2014, ROIPA published the second edition of their Cronos \u2018almanac\u2019. It has a number of contributions by researchers frequently encountered in the pages of\u00a0Atlantipedia, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/spedicato-emilio\/\">Emilio Spedicato <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/leonard-r-cedric\/\">R. Cedric Leonard<\/a>. Although it will be published in Russian, you can view the contents in English<sup>(b)<\/sup>. As you will see the subjects are wide-ranging and it is regrettable that the volume will not be available in English.<\/p>\n<p>ROIPA is organising its fourth Congress on the 13-14 April 2015.
