He spent time in Central America recording Mayan temples and glyphs in a style that suggested possible links with various ancient European and Asian civilisations. It is also claimed that he linked the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/maya\/\">Maya<\/a> with both Egypt and Atlantis.<\/p>\n<p>Waldeck\u00a0also provided the illustrations for <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/brasseur-de-bourbourg-charles-etienne\/\">Brasseur de Bourbourg&#8217;s <\/a>1866 book<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/b\/\">1506<\/a>] <\/sup> on the Mayan monuments, particularly Palenque.<\/p>\n<p>Waldeck was always secretive regarding aspects of his\u00a0life and by his own estimate was 109 when he died, the image here claims to have been taken when he was 107 years old!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jean-Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rick Waldeck (1766-1875) was a French explorer and artist.
