{"id":16690,"date":"2012-02-27T13:43:07","date_gmt":"2012-02-27T13:43:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/?p=16690"},"modified":"2026-01-08T16:34:34","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T16:34:34","slug":"broneer-oscar-theodore-n","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/broneer-oscar-theodore-n\/","title":{"rendered":"Broneer, Oscar Theodore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Oscar Theodore Broneer (1894-1992) <\/strong>was born in Sweden, but moved to the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Broneer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-27909\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Broneer.jpg\" alt=\"Broneer\" width=\"250\" height=\"202\" \/><\/a>United States in 1913. Plato described both the Acropolis of Athens as well as Atlantis at the time of their war. He noted that a spring on the Acropolis had been destroyed by an earthquake at that time. Then in 1939, Broneer rediscovered the spring, together with evidence that it had been destroyed around 1200 BC, giving us a possible anchor for dating the Atlantis conflict. \u00a0Broneer\u2019s papers are archived at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens.<\/p>\n<p>An interesting 2020 review by Tony Petrangelo of Broneer&#8217;s work and particularly his discovery of the Acropolis spring, can be found on his <a href=\"#AtlantisFYI\">Atlantis.FYI<\/a>\u00a0 website<sup>(a)(c)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Some years ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/kuhne-dr-rainer-walter\/\">Rainer W. K\u00fchne<\/a> drew attention to the fact that Plato referred to a spring <em>(<\/em><em>Crit.<\/em>112d<em>)<\/em> on the Acropolis that was destroyed during an earthquake, which he noted had only existed for about 25 years, but was rediscovered by Broneer.
