Bruins<\/strong> is a Dutch professor of geology at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel. In April 2007 he appeared on a BBC <em>Timewatch <\/em>documentary, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bruins.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-28001\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bruins.jpg\" alt=\"Bruins\" width=\"180\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bruins.jpg 180w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bruins-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a>entitled <em>The Wave that Destroyed Atlantis<\/em>. In it he supported the new old idea that Atlantis was Crete and had been destroyed by a <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/tsunami\/\">megatsunami<\/a> generated by the eruption of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/thera\/\">Thera<\/a>. Costas Synolakis, a tsunami expert from the University of Southern California, on the same programme, pointed out that apart from tsunami damage to ports and shipping, ash falls would have resulted in crop failure and general social collapse. Neither Bruins or Synolakis attempted to match the full Atlantis text with the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/minoan-hypothesis\/\">Minoan <\/a>location.<\/p>\n<p>In 2010, Bruins commenting on new developments in the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/radiocarbon-dating-amended\/\">radiocarbon dating<\/a> of Pharaonic Egypt conceded that <em>&#8220;major problems exist here in relation to the Santorini eruption between archaeological dating, radiocarbon dating and association between archaeological strata in the field and Egyptian Historical Chronology.&#8221;<\/em><sup>(a)<\/sup><\/p>\n<p><sup>(a) <\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20240716175300\/https:\/www.eurekalert.org\/news-releases\/885371\">New analysis on problems between archaeology | EurekAlert!
