However, Plato used both the Greek word \u2018basileia\u2019 as well as \u2018metropolis\u2019 in <em>Critias 115c. <\/em>\u00a0Metropolis originally meant \u2018mother city\u2019 and in time, became a generic term applicable to any seat of power. It is widely used in the New Testament with the meaning of \u2018kingdom (of god)\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Some commentators have used Basileia when referring to the entire capital <em>city <\/em>of Atlantis, while<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/spanuth-dr-jurgen\/\"> J\u00fcrgen Spanuth <\/a>arbitrarily went further, using Basileia as the name of the whole capital <em>island<\/em>, which he identifies as <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/helgoland\/\">Heligoland<\/a>. He also equates Basileia with <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/asgard-n\/\">Asgard<\/a>, the home of the gods in Norse mythology. His views were echoed by others, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/baucum-walter\/\">Walter Baucum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When you combine that with Plato\u2019s statement, that names given to Solon were translated into their Greek equivalents and so we can safely conclude that Basileia, like Atlantis, was not an original placename.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Basileia\u00a0is defined in dictionaries as an ancient Greek word denoting \u2018citadel\u2019 or \u2018royal palace\u2019.
