She is a <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/LuanaMonte.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-26852\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/LuanaMonte-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"LuanaMonte\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/LuanaMonte-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/LuanaMonte.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/a>firm supporter of the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/minoan-hypothesis\/\">Minoan Hypothesis<\/a> and has promoted this view in a book<sup>[<\/sup><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/m\/\">485<\/a><\/sup><sup>]<\/sup> published in Italian, <em>Atlantis: L&#8217;Isola Misteriosa<\/em><sup>(b)<\/sup><em>.\u00a0<\/em>In order to overcome one of the principal objections to the Minoan solution Monte argues forcefully that the Pillars of Heracles\u00a0referred to by the Egyptian priests had been located at the mouth of the Nile at the now submerged port of Herakleion, named after Herakles<sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(d)(e)<\/span><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In a 2005 paper, she suggested that <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/carthage\/\">Carthage<\/a> may have inspired Plato&#8217;s description of Atlantis<sup>(c)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>An Internet article<sup>(a)<\/sup> by Monte proposed that <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/thera\/\">Thera<\/a> had been known as Therasia, a name still applied to one of the islands created by the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> millennium BC eruption. She then claims that the name became corrupted to Tarsis, the equivalent of the biblical <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/tarshish\/\">Tarshish<\/a> and that subsequently the name was brought, by refugees,\u00a0first to <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/sardinia-amended\/\">Sardinia<\/a> and later to Iberia, where it was known as <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/tartessos\/\">Tartessos<\/a>.
