His great interest was rocketry about which he wrote a number of books on the subject including one with Wernher von Braun. Ley also wrote a regular science column for <em>Galaxy Science Fiction <\/em>from 1954 until his death.<\/p>\n<p>In the late 1930\u2019s he wrote a number of short articles in English describing the controversial \u2018Baghdad\u00a0 Batteries\u2019, which until then had only been discussed in German. One such paper is republished in L.B. Radka\u2019s book<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/n-r\/\">948<\/a>.151]<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>In 1969 sixteen of those articles were published in book form with one of them about Atlantis being used for the title, <em>Another Look at Atlantis and Fifteen Other Essays<\/em><sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/k-l\/\">827<\/a>]<\/sup><em>.<\/em> Ley supported the idea that the eruption of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/thera\/\">Thera<\/a> had been the inspiration for Plato\u2019s Atlantis story.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Willy Ley (1906-1969) was a German-American science writer, who left Nazi Germany in 1935 and eventually ended up in the United States.
