Otto<\/strong> Kuntze (1843-1907) <\/strong>was a renowned German botanist(e)<\/sup> who wondered about the distribution\"OttoKuntze\"<\/a> of the banana and arrived at the radical conclusion that the banana<\/a> was brought to America when the North Pole had a tropical climate(a)<\/sup>!<\/p>\n

His ideas were referenced in William F. Warren<\/a>‘s Paradise Found<\/em>(a)<\/sup>. <\/b>However, Ignatius Donnelly <\/a>decided to modify Kuntze\u2019s ideas and speculated on whether it was \u201cmore reasonable to suppose that the plantain, or banana, was cultivated by the people of Atlantis, and carried by their civilized colonies to the east and the west?\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Donnelly’s claim was trumped decades later by Erich von D\u00e4niken<\/a>, who claimed the banana was a gift from his extraterrestrial gods(c)<\/sup> and when David Hatcher Childress<\/a> claimed the fruit was an example of ancient genetic engineering!(b)(d)<\/sup><\/p>\n

Ray Comfort, a Christian creationist and televangelist, used the banana to demolish the theory of evolution. In a 2006 video clip(f)<\/sup> \u00a0he offered up the ‘ironclad argument’ that bananas are proof of God’s intelligent design of the natural world because “the banana and the hand are perfectly made, one for the other.”<\/p>\n

“Behold, the atheists’ nightmare!” declares Comfort, before detailing the many user-friendly features of bananas, which include its “non-slip surface”, “tab at the top” for easy opening, and convenient shape, which is “even curved toward the face to make the whole process so much easier.”<\/p>\n

I can only say that with such an idiotic statement, Mr. Comfort himself cannot claim to be the result of intelligent design.<\/p>\n
