{"id":18719,"date":"2012-11-08T08:08:57","date_gmt":"2012-11-08T08:08:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/?p=18719"},"modified":"2026-02-12T09:45:34","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T09:45:34","slug":"garcia-gregorio-n","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/garcia-gregorio-n\/","title":{"rendered":"Garcia, Gregorio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Gregorio Garc\u00eda (1556\/61-1627) <\/strong>was a Spanish Dominican who worked in Peru for some years and in 1607 published <em>Origen de los indios del Nuevo mundo e Indias occidentals<\/em><sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/g\/\">1400<\/a>]<\/sup>,<em>\u00a0 <\/em>in which he reviewed all the then current theories regarding the origins of native Americans.<\/p>\n<p>Ronald Fritze notes in his <em>Invented Knowledge<\/em><sup>[<\/sup><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/e-f\/\">0709<\/a>]<\/sup> that Garcia included the possibility that either America was Atlantis or the home of refugees from there. Andr\u00e9s Gonz\u00e1les de Barcia (1673-1743), another Spanish historian, published an expanded edition of Garc\u00eda\u2019s book in 1729.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/atlantisforschung-de\/\"><em>Atlantisforschung.de<\/em> <\/a>quotes<sup>(a) <\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/franke-thorwald-c\/\">Thorwald C. Franke&#8217;s <\/a>comments on Garcia &#8220;<em>In 1607, he published his work Origen de los indios de el nuevo mundo, e Indias Occidentales, in which he argues in great detail that\u00a0<\/em><em>America\u00a0was a part of\u00a0Atlantis. The starting point is the\u00a0critique of Jos\u00e9 de Acosta\u00a0from 1590, who doubted the reality of\u00a0Plato&#8217;s\u00a0Atlantis.
