He had an interest in linguistics among other matters and in a paper read to the Literary and Historical\u00a0 Society of Quebec in 1863, he outlined his reasons for locating Atlantis in the Atlantic, citing the evidence of the floral and faunal connections between the Old and New Worlds, which (in his opinion) could only be explained by an intermediate landmass \u2013 Atlantis. He also discusses the possible links between the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/basques\/\">Basques<\/a> and Plato\u2019s island.
