In 2003 he led a team from his university in an attempt to locate the tomb of Alexander the Great in the cemetery quarter of Alexandria.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/papamarinopoulos2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-27060\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/papamarinopoulos2-191x300.jpg\" alt=\"papamarinopoulos2\" width=\"191\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/papamarinopoulos2-191x300.jpg 191w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/papamarinopoulos2.jpg 407w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 191px) 100vw, 191px\" \/><\/a><\/span>Papamarinopoulos was one of the organisers of the Atlantis Conferences of 2005 <sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/n-r\/\">0629<\/a>]<\/sup>, 2008 <sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/n-r\/\">0750<\/a>]<\/sup> and 2011. He was also the editor of the published proceedings of those conferences. Furthermore, he delivered a number of papers to all three conferences. I am informed that after a delay of many years the publication of the proceedings of the third\u00a0 conference is now (2024) imminent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Papamarinopoulos is currently (2024) the president of Society for the Study of the Ancient Hellenic Mythology (EMAEM)<sup>(r)<\/sup>. I&#8217;m informed that the <em>&#8220;society is a non-profit association being entirely supported by its friends and members aiming among other topics to the elaboration and promotion of matters associated with the Ancient Hellenic Mythology, which are highlighted by publishing books and papers in international journals and currying out monthly public lectures and meetings by distinguished scholars, researchers and academics.&#8221;<\/em> The society will be linking to Atlantipedia in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#AdamsMark\">Mark Adams<\/a>, author of <em>Meet Me in Atlantis<\/em><sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/a\/\">1070<\/a>]<\/sup> describes Papamarinopoulos as <em>\u201cthe<\/em> <em>world\u2019s most respected Atlantis expert\u201d<\/em><sup>(h)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In his paper <em>A Bronze Age Catastrophe in the Atlantic Ocean?, <\/em>he points out some of the pitfalls associated with the interpretation of prehistoric events when using the language of 4<sup>th<\/sup> century B.C. \u201cFor instance, a literary differentiation between \u2018island\u2019 and \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/peninsula\/\">peninsula<\/a>\u2019 did not exist in alphabetic Greek before Herodotus\u2019 in the 5<sup>th<\/sup> century B.C. Similarly, there was not any distinction between the coast and an <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/island-peninsula-or-continent\/\">island<\/a> in\u00a0Egyptian writing systems, up to the 5<sup>th<\/sup> century B.C.\u201d Papamarinopoulos maintains that a lack of knowledge of such linguistic shortcomings has been used unwittingly by many who deny the existence of Atlantis.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Papamarinopoulos personally supports the idea of an <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/iberia\/\">Iberian<\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Atlantis<sup>(f)(g)<\/sup>. He presented this view in a series of six papers<sup>(<\/sup><sup>b)(j-o) <\/sup>presented to a 2010 International Geological Congress in Patras, Greece. Papamarinpoulos has written several other papers including one which discusses <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/phaeton\/\">Phaeton<\/a> as a comet and its possible coincidence with the Trojan War<sup>(a)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Stavros Papamarinopoulos at the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/atlantis-conference-melos-2005\/\">2005 Atlantis Conference<\/a> highlighted<sup>(p)<\/sup> the part played by <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/earthquake\/\">earthquakes<\/a> in the description of the ancient Athenian Acropolis in the Atlantis narrative, which he saw as part of a 50-year &#8216;seismic storm&#8217; which ravaged the Eastern Mediterranean around the 12th century BC <sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/n-r\/\">629<\/a>.499]<\/sup>. Amos Nur &amp; Eric H. Cline discuss the same intense seismic activity in a paper on the <em>Academia.edu <\/em>website<sup>(q)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Papamarinopoulos is also co-author with John S.
