A century ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/densusianu-nicolae\/\">Nicolae Densusianu<\/a> proposed The Iron Gate as\u00a0the location for the Pillars of Heracles, on the Danube in ancient Dacia, modern Romania.<\/p>\n<p>A recent book <sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/s\/\">1742<\/a>]<\/sup> by Antonije Shkokljev &amp; Slave Nikolovski\u2013Katin has related an ancient version of the &#8216;Labours of Hercules&#8217; based in the Balkan-Danube region.<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Iron-Gates.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-21699\" style=\"border: 4px solid black;\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Iron-Gates-300x255.gif\" alt=\"Iron Gates\" width=\"300\" height=\"255\" \/><\/a>Recently, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/ranko-jakovljevic\/\">Ranko Jakovljevic<\/a> expressed the view that the Iron Gate section of the Danube in Serbia was the location of Atlantis.<\/p>\n<p>A paper presented to the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/atlantis-conference-2008\/\">2008 Atlantis Conference <\/a>by Ticleanu, Constantin &amp; Nicolescu <sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/n-r\/\">750<\/a>.375]<\/sup> has the \u2018Pillars of Heracles\u2019 located at the Iron Gate but placed Atlantis a little further west on what is now the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/the-pannonian-plain-amended\/\">Pannonian Plain<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/milkovic-veljko\/\">Veljko Milkovic<\/a>\u00a0also placed the &#8216;Pillars&#8217; at the Iron Gates on the Danube and Atlantis in the Pannonian Basin<sup>(c)(d)<\/sup> in his book <em>Panonska Atlantida<\/em> <sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/m\/\">1932<\/a>]<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>This minority view of Atlantis located in Eastern European is seen by a few commentators to be vindicated by the literate Vinca culture<sup>(b)<\/sup> of the Danubian region, although the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/schoppe-christian-siegfried\/\">Schoppes<\/a> see the Vinca people as refugees from their original home in the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/927\/\">Black Sea<\/a> region<sup>(a)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>For me, all those theories conflict with Plato\u2019s unambiguous statement that the invading Atlanteans came from the <b><i>west <\/i><\/b>(Tim.25b &amp; Crit.114c). In fact, what Plato actually said was that the invasion came from the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/atlantic-ocean\/\">Atlantic<\/a> <strong><em>Sea<\/em><\/strong> (pelagos).
