He studied physics at Marburg University and is currently working at the Forschungsinstitut.<\/p>\n<p>He had been studying the Atlantis question for some years and published <em>Platons Insel Atlantis\u00a0<\/em><sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/h-j\/\"><sup>161<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> outlining his theories as well as presenting them to the 2005 <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/atlantis-conference-%e2%80%93-melos-2005\/\">Atlantis Conference<\/a> <sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/a\/\"><sup>629<\/sup><\/a><sup>.361]<\/sup>.\u00a0After the publication of Hofmann&#8217;s book, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/franke-thorwald-c\/\">Thorwald C. Franke<\/a> wrote a critique, which is intended as a refutation of Hofmann&#8217;s hypothesis<span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><sup>(b<\/sup><sup>)<\/sup><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>There is a pdf file, in English, available on the Internet<sup>(a) <\/sup>giving a summary of his\u00a0views.<\/p>\n<p>He supports the idea of Atlantis as a <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/bronze-age\/\">Bronze Age<\/a> city located in <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/north-africa\/\">North Africa<\/a>. He believes that the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/chott-el-jerid\/\">Chotts<\/a> in what are today <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/algeria\/\">Algeria<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/UHofmann02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-27517 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/UHofmann02.jpg\" alt=\"UHofmann02\" width=\"400\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/UHofmann02.jpg 400w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/UHofmann02-300x126.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/tunisia\/\">Tunisia<\/a> originally constituted the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/lake-tritonis\/\">Lake Tritonis<\/a> of Greek legend and was also known as the Atlantic Sea and connected to the Mediterranean at the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/gabes-gulf-of\/\">Gulf of Gab\u00e9s<\/a>, where the Pillars of Heracles were situated.<\/p>\n<p>He also points to an ancient people, the Temehu or <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/tenehu-and-temehu\/\">Tenehu<\/a> who ruled North Africa up to the borders of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/egypt\/\">Egypt<\/a>.
