It was widely used throughout the Mediterranean and was adopted by the Greeks from the Egyptians around 2000 BC<sup>(d)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/herrmann-albert\/\">Albert Herrmann<\/a>, quoted by <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/bramwell-james-guy\/\">Bramwell<\/a><sup> [<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/b\/\">195<\/a>.117],\u00a0<\/sup>attempted to make sense of the dimensions of the ditch surrounding the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/plain-of-atlantis\/\">Plain of Atlantis <\/a>by suggesting that Solon had been misled by an interpreter who converted the Egyptian measurements\u00a0into Greek \u2018podes\u2019 (feet) but erroneously gave the results as \u2018stadia\u2019 exaggerating the data by a factor of thirty!<\/p>\n<p>However, for me, Herrmann\u2019s highly speculative theory makes little sense, if the \u2018schoinos\u2019 was\u00a0used by the Greeks since 2oooBC,\u00a0why convert it at all?
