Amasis\u00a0is\u00a0given by Plato as the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/AmasisII.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-28142\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/AmasisII.jpg\" alt=\"AmasisII\" width=\"220\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a>name of the Egyptian pharaoh at the time of Solon\u2019s visit to <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/sais-addendum\/\">Sais. <\/a>However, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/young-forsyth-phyllis\/\">Phyllis Young Forsyth<\/a><sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/w-z\/\"><sup>266<\/sup><\/a><sup>.38]<\/sup> protests that Plato did not claim that Amasis was on the throne at the time of Solon\u2019s visit, but merely identified Sais as the home of Amasis. The English translations of Tim.21e by <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/bury-rev-robert-gregg\/\">Bury<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/jowett-benjamin\/\">Jowett<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/lee-sir-henry-desmond-prichard\/\">Lee<\/a> are compatible with this, as is the German translation of Plato\u2019s text by <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/susemihl-franz-n\/\">Franz Susemihl<\/a><sup>(a)<\/sup><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/greer-john-michael\/\">John Michael Greer<\/a><sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/g\/\">0345<\/a>]<\/sup>,\u00a0among others,\u00a0supports this view.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Firm historical information for this period\u00a0is often scanty and sometimes contradictory. However, it is thought that Solon left Athens for a number of years and some of that period may have overlapped with part of Amasis\u2019 reign. <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/herodotus-revised\/\">Herodotus<\/a> is our principal source of information regarding Amasis and he clearly mentions (Bk.1.30) that Solon was at the court of Amasis.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/zhirov-nicolai-feodosyevich\/\">Zhirov<\/a> quotes the views of V.S. Struve, who believed that Herodotus\u2019\u00a0 3<sup>rd<\/sup> century BC dates were out by 25 years.<span id=\"_marker\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/linforth-ivan\/\">Ivan Linforth<\/a> strongly disputes<sup>[<\/sup><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/k-l\/\">041<\/a><\/sup><sup>.<\/sup><sup>300]<\/sup> the idea of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/solon\/\">Solon<\/a> meeting Amasis as \u201cchronologically quite improbable\u201d. He claims that Solon (c.630-560 BC) had returned to Athens before the reign of Amasis.
