Colville\" width=\"181\" height=\"238\" \/><\/a>English author, usually described as a Universal Spiritualist. In 1884, he delivered a lecture in London entitled <i>The Lost Continent, Atlantis <\/i><sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/c\/\">1220<\/a>] <\/sup><sup>\u00a0<\/sup>and two years later, in San Francisco, in a more extended form.<\/p>\n<p>He was greatly influenced by <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/donnelly-ignatius-loyola\/\">Ignatius Donnelly\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0then recently published book \u00a0and he also opted for the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/azores\/\">Azores<\/a> as the remnants of Atlantis,<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">*<\/span>describing Plato&#8217;s Island as &#8216;a bridge&#8217; between Europe and America and speculating that &#8220;<em>&#8216;l&#8217;he fact of the existence of Atlantis as a centre of civilization, and a great sea~ of<\/em><em> commerce between the eastern and western hemispheres, can alone satisfactorily account for the wonderful resemblance between the extant traces of antique civilizations on both sides of the world.&#8221;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">*<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>William Wilberforce Juvenal Colville (1862-1917) was a prolific English author, usually described as a Universal Spiritualist.
