The argument claims that (i) \u2019ancient\u2019 means \u2019of times long past\u2019 (ii) its Latinised form is \u2019antiants\u2019 (iii) this is linked to \u2018atl-antiants\u2019 (iv) in turn this is stretched to mean \u2018those that came from Atlantis\u2019. It is this sort of convoluted nonsense that has continued to provide Atlantis sceptics with an endless supply of ammunition.<\/p>\n<p>In reality, the word is derived from a compound of two Latin words \u2018ante\u2019 and \u2018annus\u2019 which mean \u2018before\u2019 and \u2019year\u2019.
