{"id":2377,"date":"2010-05-31T18:59:13","date_gmt":"2010-05-31T18:59:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/?p=2377"},"modified":"2026-02-14T09:03:14","modified_gmt":"2026-02-14T09:03:14","slug":"appleby-nigel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/appleby-nigel\/","title":{"rendered":"Appleby, Nigel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Nigel<\/strong> <strong>A<\/strong><strong>ppleby <\/strong><strong>(<\/strong>a.k.a.<strong> Major Niall Arden) <\/strong>is the \u2018author\u2019 of <em>H<\/em><em>all of the <\/em><em>G<\/em><em>ods<\/em><sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/a\/\"><sup>076<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup>, which purported to identify the location, in Egypt, of the Hall of Records\u00a0that is supposed to contain the accumulated knowledge of an advanced worldwide civilisation that preceded the ancient Egyptians.<\/p>\n<p>The author wrote of \u2018Atlantis\u2019 being <em>\u201creally just a symbolic name for the previous worldwide civilisation that existed prior to the last reversal of the Sun and Earth\u2019s magnetic fields and the subsequent cataclysm that followed.\u201d <\/em> He then added that most of this civilisation still exists, virtually intact, beneath the Antarctic ice (p.363).<b> <\/b>He also claimed to have identified <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/nibiru-n\/\">Nibiru<\/a> in Sumerian texts independently of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/sitchin-zecharia\/\">Zechariah Sitchin<\/a> and to have deduced that it is <em>&#8220;about the size of Earth and nearer than anticipated.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He also announced the establishment of \u2018Operation Hermes\u2019, which had the objective of locating the Hall of Records near Giza<sup>(c<\/sup><sup>)<\/sup>\u00a0as well as other expeditions to Central &amp; South America, China and Antarctica (p.378). Operation Hermes was abandoned when the Egyptian authorities refused permission for the expedition.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the publication of the book in 1998,\u00a0the publishers had to withdraw it from sale following claims of plagiarism by a number of other authors<sup>(<\/sup><sup>a<\/sup><sup>)<\/sup>. Lynn Picknett &amp; Clive Prince reveal some of the details of this episode in their <em>Stargate Conspiracy <\/em><sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/n-r\/\"><sup>705<\/sup><\/a><sup>.97]<\/sup>.<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&gt;<\/span><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/lawton-ian\/\">Ian Lawton<\/a> &amp; Chris Ogilvie-Herald also devote a chapter of <em>Giza the Truth<\/em> <sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/k-l\/\">1690<\/a>]<\/sup> to &#8216;The Appley Affair&#8217; giving more detail, particularly the battle that <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/ralph-ellis-amended\/\">Ralph Ellis<\/a> had to demonstrate that large chunks of his book, <em>Thoth: Architect of the Universe<\/em>, had been used by Appleby.<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&lt;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The whole matter was further confused when Graham Hancock and Robert Bauval along with Colin Wilson, Andrew Collins, Christopher Knight, Robert Lomas, Simon Cox and Alan Alford issued <em>An Official Statement Regarding Operation Hermes<\/em><sup>(a)<\/sup> declaring that they were unaffiliated with Operation Hermes, then and in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Lightning struck twice when the second book of Appleby\u2019s, <em>Desert Fire<\/em>, was also withdrawn from sale within days of publication in 2006!<\/p>\n<p><sup>(<\/sup><sup>a<\/sup><sup>) <\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mail-archive.com\/ctrl@listserv.aol.com\/msg03919.html\">https:\/\/www.mail-archive.com\/ctrl@listserv.aol.com\/msg03919.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p><sup>(b)<\/sup>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailygrail.com\/blogs\/Chris-Ogilvie-Herald\/2006\/7\/Nigel-Appleby-Egypt-Iraq\">https:\/\/www.dailygrail.com\/blogs\/Chris-Ogilvie-Herald\/2006\/7\/Nigel-Appleby-Egypt-Iraq<\/a><\/p>\n<p><sup>(c<\/sup><sup>) <\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20010818232620\/http:\/www.islandearth.net\/hermes\/content.htm\">https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20010818232620\/http:\/\/www.islandearth.net\/hermes\/content.htm<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nigel Appleby (a.k.a.
