He served in France as a medical officer in the British army during the First World War, after which he returned to America as an intelligence officer (spy?). In 1928, it seems that he established an eastern branch in East Orange, New Jersey, which was referred to by <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/sykes-j-egerton-bill\/\">Egerton Sykes<\/a> as the Atlantis Research Centre, but this could be a naming mistake.\u00a0Its president was the British consul-general, Sir James Robinson and <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/churchward-%e2%80%98colonel%e2%80%99-james\/\">James Churchward<\/a> of Mu fame, its vice-president.<\/p>\n<p><sup>(a) <\/sup> <em>Atlantis<\/em>, Volume 11, No.6, Sept\/Nov 1958<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Atlantean Research\u00a0 Society was founded in 1906 in Seattle, Washington, by Dr. Alexander Strath-Gordon.
