In his 2013 offering <em>L&#8217; America dimenticata<\/em><sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/n-r\/\">1060<\/a>]<\/sup><em> (The Forgotten America) <\/em>he bravely suggests that America was discovered by<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/lucio_russo-272x300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-25758\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/lucio_russo-272x300-272x300.jpg\" alt=\"lucio_russo-272x300\" width=\"272\" height=\"300\" \/> \u00a0\u00a0*<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/phoenicians\/\">Phoenicians<\/a> or the Carthaginians. He also claims that the longitude of the Lesser Antillies (known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/isles-of-the-blest\/\">Isles of the Blest<\/a>) was known precisely to Hipparchus (190-120BC), but that Ptolemy (90-168AD) later identified the Isles of the Blest with the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/canary-islands\/\">Canaries <\/a>and made a catastrophic error when he reduced the circumference of the Earth to 180,000 stadia from the nearly exact figure of 252,000 stadia calculated by <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/eratosthenes-of-cyrene\/\">Eratosthenes<\/a> centuries earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Having unravelled Ptolemy&#8217;s error Russo was then able to locate the position of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/thule\/\">Thule<\/a> on the coast of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/greenland\/\">Greenland<\/a><sup>(a)<\/sup>. <a href=\"#ColavitoJ\">Jason Colavito<\/a> had a few critical words to offer regarding Russo&#8217;s theory<sup>(b)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&gt;<\/span><\/strong>Nevertheless, in an interview, Russo defends the central thesis of his <em>L&#8217; America dimenticata<\/em> regarding early transatlantic travel.
