Whishaw<\/a> is an account of<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Atlantis-whishaw-cover.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-34217\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Atlantis-whishaw-cover-187x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"187\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Atlantis-whishaw-cover-187x300.jpg 187w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Atlantis-whishaw-cover-768x1233.jpg 768w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Atlantis-whishaw-cover-638x1024.jpg 638w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Atlantis-whishaw-cover.jpg 1073w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 187px) 100vw, 187px\" \/><\/a> her 25-year search for <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/tartessos\/\">Tartessos<\/a>, which she believed she had found under the city of modern Seville.<\/p>\n<p>An association of Andalusia with Atlantis goes back more than 400 years, when <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/jose-pellicer-de-ossau-salas-y-tovar\/\">Jos\u00e9 Pellicer<\/a> linked Atlantis with the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/donana-marshes\/\">Do\u00f1ana Marshes<\/a>, an idea that received considerable attention in the 20th century, leading to extensive unsuccessful excavations in an area where satellite imagery suggested buried structures.<\/p>\n<p>Despite of the original title of her book, her view was that Tartessos itself was not Atlantis but one of its colonies. The book describes in detail Mrs Whishaw\u2019s excavations in the town of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/niebla\/\">Niebla<\/a>, where she lived and the evidence she found, which indicates an early culture that she claimed was Atlantean and which was brought from <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/libya\/\">Libya<\/a> following the drying of the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/sahara-desert\/\">Sahara<\/a> around 10000 BC. She also investigated the pre-Roman mining that was carried out in the region and concluded that the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/copper\/\">copper<\/a> extracted there was the \u2018orichalcum\u2019 of Plato\u2019s narrative.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Whishaw established a museum in Niebla.<\/p>\n<p>Whishaw&#8217;s book was reprinted as <em>Atlantis in Spain <\/em>(Adventures Unlimited Press, Illinois, 1994)<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Atlantis in Andalusia: A Study of the Ancient Sun Kingdoms of Spain [053] by Mrs E.M.
