{"id":2730,"date":"2010-06-03T15:16:31","date_gmt":"2010-06-03T15:16:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/bacon-edward\/"},"modified":"2025-12-12T11:10:56","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T11:10:56","slug":"bacon-edward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/bacon-edward\/","title":{"rendered":"Bacon, Edward"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Edward<\/strong> <strong>B<\/strong><strong>acon <\/strong><strong>(1906-1981)<\/strong> was the archaeological editor of the <em>I<\/em><em>llustrated <\/em><em>L<\/em><em>ondon <\/em><em>N<\/em><em>ews<\/em> for many years, who also wrote a number of books of his own<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/b\/\"><sup>139<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> and edited others, on the subject of archaeology.<\/p>\n<p>In 1961, he published <em>Digging for History\u00a0<\/em>which is a review of important archaeological excavations worldwide from 1945 to 1959.<\/p>\n<p>He was the co-author with <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/galanopoulos-angelos\/\">Angelos Georgiou Galanopoulos<\/a> of <em>Atlantis, The Truth Behind the Legend<\/em><sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/g\/\"><sup>263<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> which generated renewed interest in the Minoan Hypothesis after its publication in 1969. The basis for their theory is a belief that Plato\u2019s 9,000 years for the time elapsed since the Atlantean War, is overstated by a factor of 10. If this were correct, 900 years would bring the date of its demise in line with the date of the massive eruption of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/thera\/\">Thera<\/a>.
