{"id":2769,"date":"2010-06-03T18:25:32","date_gmt":"2010-06-03T18:25:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/?p=2769"},"modified":"2026-02-20T08:06:55","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T08:06:55","slug":"bartoli-giuseppe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/bartoli-giuseppe\/","title":{"rendered":"Bartoli, Giuseppe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Giuseppe <\/strong><strong>B<\/strong><strong>artoli <\/strong><strong>(1717-1788) <\/strong>was a professor of Greek at the University of Turin and \u2018antiquarian\u2019 to the King of Sardinia.<\/p>\n<p>In 1779, he published a work in French<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/b\/\">1456<\/a>]<\/sup>,\u00a0half of which was devoted to a study of Atlantis. <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/galanopoulos-angelos\/\">Galanopoulos<\/a> &amp; Bacon claim<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/g\/\">263<\/a>.93]<\/sup> that he was the first to locate Atlantis in the Eastern Mediterranean.\u00a0They\u00a0also claim that he was the first to claim that Plato\u2019s Atlantis story was a retelling of the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/persian-war\/\">Persian War <\/a>with Athens. <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">*<\/span><\/strong>However, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/kershaw-stephen-p-n\/\">Stephen P. Kershaw<\/a> is of the opinion<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/k-l\/\"><sup>1410<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> \u00a0that Bartoli believed the Atlantean War represented both the Peloponnesian War, between Athens and Sparta, and also the internal conflicts within Athens!<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">*<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Giuseppe Bartoli (1717-1788) was a professor of Greek at the University of Turin and \u2018antiquarian\u2019 to the King of Sardinia.
