His <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/lixus.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-21656\" style=\"border: 4px solid black;\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/lixus.png\" alt=\"lixus\" width=\"261\" height=\"193\" \/><\/a>excellent website<sup>(a)<\/sup> concentrates on matching the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/the-topography-of-atlantis\/\">topography<\/a> of Morocco with Plato\u2019s description, together with a detailed re-appraisal of Plato\u2019s original text.<\/p>\r\n<p>He presented a paper at the 2005 <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/atlantis-conference-%e2%80%93-melos-2005\/\">Atlantis Conference<\/a> on Melos in which he outlined the evidence for linking Atlantis with the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/phoenicians\/\">Phoenicians<\/a>, in particular their western colonies. Bergman contends that although Plato never applied the Greek word for <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/continent\/\">continent<\/a>, <em>epiros, <\/em>to Atlantis<em>.<\/em>\u00a0his statement that Atlantis was greater than Asia and <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/libya\/\">Libya<\/a> combined was a reference to its size rather than its military might. Bergman supports his contention with a quotation from <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/strabo\/\">Strabo<\/a> (<em>G<\/em><em>eography <\/em>2.3.6), who employs the term <em>epiros\u00a0<\/em>in a similar manner.<\/p>\r\n<p>Although he originally favoured the ancient city of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/lixus\/\">Lixus<\/a>\u00a0on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, Bergman later modified his views and has now opted for Chellah (sometimes Salah or Shelah), a site on the river Bou Regreg near the Moroccan capital, Rabat.<\/p>\r\n<p>Bergman also presented a paper to the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/atlantis-conference-2008\/\">2008 Atlantis Conference<\/a> in which he quoted from fourteen classical authors a <em>\u201crange of parallels between Plato\u2019s primeval Athenians and those of the Heroic tradition. The idea that Plato invented the whole thing seems highly unlikely.\u201d <\/em><sup>[<\/sup><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/n-r\/\">0750<\/a>.103]<\/sup><\/p>\r\n<p>Some years ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/diaz-montexano-georgeos\/\">Georgeos D\u00edaz-Montexano<\/a> published a paper<sup>(b)(c)<\/sup> on the now-defunct <em>AtlantisRising.com<\/em> website in which he strongly criticised Bergman&#8217;s identification of Chellah with the Phoenician city of Sal? and by extension, with the city of Atlantis.<\/p>\r\n<p>In December 2016, Bergman published the first of a series of Kindle books with the title <em>The Foundations of Plato&#8217;s Atlantic Tale <\/em><sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/b\/\">1395<\/a>]<\/sup>. In it he focuses on the credibility of Plato&#8217;s account and some of the apparent contradictions in the text.
