He worked on <em>N<\/em><em>atural <\/em><em>H<\/em><em>istory<\/em> magazine and <em>T<\/em><em>he<\/em><em> B<\/em><em>ook<\/em> <em>of<\/em><em> K<\/em><em>nowledge<\/em> and laboured for forty years as a freelance editor and writer. He has specialised in writing nonfiction, covering a wide range of subjects, from zoology to travel guides and military histories.<\/p>\n<p>He first visited Greece in 1956 and has travelled and lived there over the years. In 1970, Bowman spent a year in the Mediterranean, visiting many of the sites associated with the search for Atlantis and subsequently wrote an interesting book<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/b\/\"><sup>193<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> on his endeavours to identify its location. Although the book is sometimes classified as a juvenile read, it is more than adequate as a primer for any age group.<\/p>\n<p>In &#8216;Quest&#8217;, Bowman<sup>[p.3]<\/sup> apparently coined the term &#8216;atlantist&#8217; as an improvement on &#8216;atlantologist&#8217; to describe those who have a keen interest in the study of Atlantis, but it got little support.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John S.
