Other locations in the <a href=\"#AegeanSea\">Aegean<\/a> have been proposed by researchers such as, <a href=\"#Zamarro\">Paulino Zamarro<\/a> and <a href=\"#DjonisCA\">C. A. Djonis<\/a>, as well as three Italian linguists, Facchetti, Negri and Notti, who presented a paper<sup>(a)<\/sup> to the <a href=\"#AtlantisConference2005\">2005 Atlantis Conference<\/a> outlining their reasons for supporting an Aegean backdrop to the Atlantis story.<\/p>\n<p>Mainland Greece has also been proposed as home to Atlantis. In the middle of the 20<sup>th <\/sup>century, <a href=\"#ScrantonRL\">R. L. Scranton<\/a> suggested Lake Copa\u00efs in Boeotia, an idea later modified by\u00a0<a href=\"#SmithOD\">Oliver D. Smith,<\/a> who subsequently completely abandoned the idea of Atlantis as a reality. More recently, it has been proposed that Atlantis was just an allegory of Athens and its port, ancient Piraeus, was partly the inspiration behind Plato&#8217;s description of Atlantis<sup>(b)<\/sup>.
