De<\/strong> <strong>L<\/strong><strong>opateki <\/strong>was an occasional contributor at the end of the 19<sup>th<\/sup> century to the now defunct <em>Los Angeles Herald.<\/em> In an article<sup>(a)<\/sup> on January 5<sup>th<\/sup> 1896 entitled <em>&#8220;True Atlantis&#8221; <\/em>in which he disagreed with details of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/donnelly-ignatius-loyola\/\">Ignatius Donnelly&#8217;s <\/a>then recently published, <em>Atlantis<\/em>. Donnelly proposed the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/azores\/\">Azores<\/a> as remnants of Atlantis, while Lopateki argued that the <strong><em>total<\/em><\/strong> lack of any traces on the islands of a &#8216;high culture&#8217; would seem to contradict Donnelly.<\/p>\n<p>However, Lopateki proposed that the civilisations of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/mexico\/\">Mexico<\/a> and Central America were superior candidates for the title of &#8216;Atlantis&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><sup>(a) <\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20240604170542\/https:\/\/cdnc.ucr.edu\/cgi-bin\/cdnc?a=d&amp;d=LAH18960105.2.47\">Los Angeles Herald 5 January 1896 \u2014 California Digital Newspaper Collection (archive.org)<\/a><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0*<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>M.
