Jean-Marcel<\/strong> Cadet <\/strong>(1751-1835) <\/strong>was French mineralogist, who was Inspector of Mines on Corsica<\/a> for 25 years. He wrote a number of papers and books on the geology of the island. Included in his output was Memoire sur les jaspes et autres pierres precieuses de l’isle de Corse<\/em>(a)<\/sup>, <\/em>published in 1785, in which he also reviewed Plato’s account of Atlantis in his Critias<\/em> and Timaeus <\/em>and concluded that Atlantis had been situated in the Atlantic.<\/p>\n

James Bramwell<\/a>[0184<\/a>.137]<\/sup> \u00a0claims that Cadet was the first to express the view that Atlantis had been an island in the Atlantic<\/a> and that the Canaries<\/a> and the Azores<\/a> were its remnants.<\/p>\n
