Date: 1688 &#8211; 1749<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Nicolas Fr\u00e9ret <\/strong><strong>(1688-1749)<\/strong> was a French scholar with a particular interest in history and mythology, which inevitably led to his study of the Atlantis question.<b> <\/b>He was unhappy with accepting that Plato&#8217;s 9,000 &#8216;years&#8217; was a reference to solar years, but preferred instead to consider that units of three or four months were used.<b> <\/b>As a consequence, he concluded that the Atlantean War took place in 3380 BC.<\/p>\n<p>To make Plato\u2019s 9,000 years more credible, commentators such as <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/carli-giovanni-rinaldo\/\">Giovanni Carli<\/a>, also in the 18th century and <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/rafinesque-constantine-samuel\/\">Rafinesque<\/a> in the 19th, have suggested that Plato\u2019s years were in fact \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/seasons-n\/\">seasons<\/a>\u2019. The idea has gained further traction in more recent years with support from <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/brychta-radek\/\">Radek Brychta<\/a> and the late <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/hausmann-axel\/\">Axel Hausmann<\/a> and most recently <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/rosario-vieni\/\">Rosario Vieni<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fr\u00e9ret was one of the first to suggest <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/syrtis-minor-n\/\">Syrtis<\/a> Major as the location of Atlantis.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nicolas Fr\u00e9ret (1688-1749) was a French scholar with a particular interest in history and mythology, which inevitably led to his study of the Atlantis question.
