{"id":3185,"date":"2010-06-07T11:28:02","date_gmt":"2010-06-07T11:28:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/ethiopia\/"},"modified":"2026-03-11T18:30:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T18:30:06","slug":"ethiopia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/ethiopia\/","title":{"rendered":"Ethiopia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>E<\/strong><strong>thiopia,<\/strong> as a geographical area, had very different meanings depending on the period in which it was used. <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/joseph-frank\/\">Frank Joseph<\/a> stated<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/h-j\/\"><sup>102<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> that until the 1<sup>st<\/sup> century BC. Ethiopia refers to the Atlantic coast of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/north-africa\/\">North Africa<\/a>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/zhirov-nicolai-feodosyevich\/\"> Zhirov<\/a> claimed that &#8216;Ethiopia&#8217; simply meant a land inhabited by dark-skinned people<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/w-z\/\">0458<\/a>.98]<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/critias-text-108c-121c\/\">Pliny the Elder<\/a> stated that Aethiopia was formerly called <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/atlantia\/\">Atlantia<\/a> (p. 116). <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/proclus-lycaeus\/\">Proclus<\/a>, the Greek philosopher, was convinced that <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/ethiopic-ocean.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-28165 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/ethiopic-ocean.jpg\" alt=\"ethiopic ocean\" width=\"544\" height=\"292\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/ethiopic-ocean.jpg 544w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/ethiopic-ocean-300x161.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 544px) 100vw, 544px\" \/><\/a>Atlantis existed and was connected with ancient Ethiopia, quoting <em>T<\/em><em>he <\/em><em>E<\/em><em>thiopian <\/em><em>H<\/em><em>istory of <\/em><em>M<\/em><em>arcellus<\/em><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/braghine-col-alexander-pavlovitch\/\">Col. Alexander Braghine<\/a> believed<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/b\/\"><sup>156<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> in a connection between the ancient Ethiopians and Atlantis. The map above dating from 1650 and published in a book<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/n-r\/\"><sup>292<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> by J.A. Rogers shows the South Atlantic as \u2018The Ethiopic Ocean\u2019<em>, <\/em>while the entire Central Africa is named Ethiopia. We can only conclude that the location of the original Ethiopia is nearly as difficult to pinpoint as the location of Atlantis itself.<\/p>\n<p>In 1936,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/duville-daniel\/\">D. Duvill\u00e9<\/a> suggested<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/d\/\"><sup>284<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> that there had been <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/two-atlantises\/\">two Atlantises<\/a> &#8211; one in the Atlantic and one in Ethiopia.<\/p>\n<p>It might be worth noting that in <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/greek-mythology\/\">Greek mythology<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/poseidon\/\">Poseidon<\/a> was given two Ethiopias, one in the east and the other in the west.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, African author George Mac D Lynch published <em>Ethiopia is Atlantis <\/em>and has made it freely available on the <em>Internet Archive<\/em>.<sup>(a)<\/sup> Lynch has been greatly influenced by the writings of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/donnelly-ignatius-loyola\/\">Ignatius Donnelly<\/a>, Drusilla Dunjee Houston and <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/massey-gerald\/\">Gerald Massey<\/a>.
