He wrote many books that generally received criticism from the scientific establishment, but were very popular with the reading public.<\/p>\n<p>Figuier, in his <em>La Terre et les Mers<\/em><sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/e-f\/\">296<\/a>]<\/sup> was the first, in 1872, to link the explosion of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/thera\/\">Thera<\/a> with Plato\u2019s Atlantis.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#ColavitoJ\">Jason Colavito<\/a> has translated some of Figuier&#8217;s text<sup>(a)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><sup>(a)<\/sup> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jasoncolavito.com\/santorini-and-atlantis.html\">https:\/\/www.jasoncolavito.com\/santorini-and-atlantis.html<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Louis Guillaume Figuier (1819-1894) was a French doctor of medicine who took to journalism, specialising in the popularisation of the scientific advances of the 19thcentury.
