He first did this in an 1953 article<sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(c)<\/span><\/sup> that followed the writings of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/diodorus-siculus\/\">Diodorus Siculus<\/a>. He firmly believed the salts marshes of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/north-africa\/\">North Africa<\/a> were the remnants of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/lake-tritonis\/\">Lake Tritonis<\/a> where Atlantis had existed, before a destructive catastrophe led to the dispersal of its survivors in various directions. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/deruelle-jean\/\">Jean Deruelle<\/a><sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/d\/\"><sup>278<\/sup><\/a><sup>] <\/sup>claims that Graves was the first, if briefly<sup>(b)<\/sup>, to suggest the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/dogger-bank-2\/\">Dogger Bank<\/a> as the location of Atlantis. It seems that he quickly abandoned this idea<b> <\/b>because the North Sea inundation was too early<sup>(d.89)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Further confusion is added by an entry in Wikipedia that claiming<sup>(a)<\/sup> Graves argued that <em>Atlantis was the <\/em><em>Island of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/pharos\/\">Pharos<\/a><\/em><em> off the western coast of the <\/em><em>Nile Delta<\/em><em>, before Alexander the Great connected the island to mainland Egypt by building a causeway.<b> <\/b><\/em>What he did say was <em>&#8220;perhaps as the result of a submarine earthquake, the enormous harbour works built by the Keftiu (\u2018sea-people\u2019, meaning the Cretans and their allies) on the island of Pharos and,\u00a0<\/em><em>subsided under seven fathoms of<\/em> water.&#8221;<sup>(d.89)<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>In <em>The Greek Myths<\/em>, Graves considered the likelihood that the Atlantis story was comprised of several components from different legends.
