He was arrested during the French Revolution and was sentenced to death, but was released as a result of the intervention of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/bory-de-saint-vincent-baron-jean-baptise-genevieve-marcellin\/\">Bory de Saint Vincent<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In his 1819 paper, <em>De l\u2019Atlantide de Platon <\/em>[<a href=\"#A1018\"><sup>[<a href=\"#A1018\">1018]<\/a><\/sup><\/a>, Latreille argued that <a href=\"#PersianWar\">Persia<\/a> occupied the site of Atlantis and had formerly been an island when the Caspian Sea, the Oxus and the Indus covered a more extensive area.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pierre-Andr\u00e9 Latreille (1762-1833) was an ordained priest as well as the leading entomologist of his day.
