He has published many books and articles on physics, astronomy, climatology, and psychology. He lives in New York and has an interest in metaphysics, mysticism, and music. His book on <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/catastrophism\/\">catastrophism<\/a><sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/k-l\/\"><sup>432<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> has an extensive section on Atlantis. He accepts that the destruction of Atlantis coincided with the end of the Ice Age\u00a0around 9600 BC agreeing with the date given by Plato in his dialogues. However, LaViolette <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/LaViolette.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-28091 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/LaViolette-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"LaViolette\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/LaViolette-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/LaViolette.jpg 519w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>insists that the story must be taken metaphorically and on two levels. In the first metaphor, he sees Atlantis as the ice sheet that once covered North America, which bordered on the Atlantic northwest of the Pillars of Heracles. This glacier was linked to the European ice cover extending as far as <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/tyrrhenia\/\">Tyrrhenia<\/a>, as noted by Plato. However, he does not explain Plato\u2019s reference to \u2018Atlantis\u2019 also extending to Libya, where there is no evidence of glaciation during the last Ice Age. The second metaphor has Atlantis in Critias representing \u2018the first particle of matter that arose at the dawn of creation\u2019! In his book <em>Genesis of the Cosmos<\/em><sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">[<\/span><\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/k-l\/\"><sup>433<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> he proposes that not only Atlantis as well as other creation myths were intended as a symbolic representation of the electric field that forms the structure of a subatomic matter<sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(b<\/span><\/sup><sup>)<\/sup>.<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>For anyone still interested, LaViolette has a website<sup>(<\/sup><sup>a<\/sup><sup>)<\/sup> outlining his radical ideas.<\/p>\n<p>It is worth noting that\u00a0LaViolette has ancient man possessing\u00a0extensive knowledge, which he believes \u2018requires that we considerably revise our ideas about the level of technical sophistication that our prehistoric ancestors had achieved\u2019<sup>[<\/sup><sup>432.<\/sup><sup>264]<\/sup>.
