However, his road to \u2018conventional\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Mark-Lehner.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-27040\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Mark-Lehner-300x164.png\" alt=\"Mark Lehner\" width=\"300\" height=\"164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Mark-Lehner-300x164.png 300w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Mark-Lehner.png 304w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Egyptology began with a fascination with <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/cayce-edgar\/\">Edgar Cayce<\/a> and his Atlantis psychic readings. In 1974 Lehner wrote<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/k-l\/\"><sup>436<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> of his support for Cayce\u2019s \u2018revelation\u2019 of a connection between Atlantis and a pre-dynastic Egypt. He includes an attempt to explain away such wonders as humans with \u2018animal appendages\u2019 including legs with feathers and \u2018electrical surgical knives\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>It may be pertinent that in 1973, Lehner was enrolled at the American University in Cairo, thanks to a grant from the Edgar Cayce Foundation. Nevertheless, it appears that by 1977, he had begun his journey towards orthodoxy by renouncing his support for Cayce\u2019s views on ancient <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/egypt\/\">Egypt<\/a>.
