{"id":3626,"date":"2010-06-09T19:29:43","date_gmt":"2010-06-09T19:29:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/lisbon\/"},"modified":"2026-04-25T16:27:47","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T15:27:47","slug":"lisbon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/lisbon\/","title":{"rendered":"Lisbon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>L<\/strong><strong>isbon<\/strong>, capital of modern <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/portugal\/\">Portugal<\/a>, was previously called Olissipo, which is a modification of its Phoenician name \u2018Alis Ubbo\u2019 which some writers, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/sora-steven\/\">Steven Sora<\/a>, suggest it means \u2018the port of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Lisbon.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-29984\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-29984\" src=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Lisbon-300x266.jpg\" alt=\"Lisbon\" width=\"300\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Lisbon-300x266.jpg 300w, https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Lisbon.jpg 736w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Ulysses\u2019. Later, under the Romans, it was known as &#8216;Felicita Julia Olisipo&#8217; and renamed by the Moors &#8216;Aschbouna&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Lisbon has been identified by some with one of the first ten <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/kings-of-atlantis\/\">kings of Atlantis<\/a>. One of\u00a0whom\u00a0was called <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/elasippos\/\">Elasippos<\/a> and it is claimed that he gave his name to that part of the Atlantean empire over which he ruled. The assumption is that over time, Elasippos was corrupted to Lisbon. However, Plato pointed out that the names given by Solon had been Hellenised and consequently Elasippos would probably have been originally known by a totally dissimilar name and so any suggested connection with Lisbon would appear to have no real foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Steven Sora, in <em>The Triumph of the Sea God<\/em>s<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/s\/\"><sup>0<\/sup><sup>395<\/sup><\/a><sup>.219] <\/sup>, maintains that the\u00a0Lisbon area\u00a0held the true location of both\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/troy\/\">Troy<\/a> AND Atlantis.
