{"id":3734,"date":"2010-06-10T12:58:28","date_gmt":"2010-06-10T12:58:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/pelasgians\/"},"modified":"2023-05-23T06:43:30","modified_gmt":"2023-05-23T05:43:30","slug":"pelasgians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/pelasgians\/","title":{"rendered":"Pelasgians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>P<\/strong><strong>elasgians<\/strong> or Pelasgi is the term applied to early populations of the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/aegean-sea\/\">Aegean<\/a>, prior to the Flood of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/deucalion-flood-of\/\">Deucalion<\/a> and the subsequent arrival of the Hellenic peoples to the region. Pelasgian Greeks are recognised as having occupied <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/crete\/\">Crete<\/a>\u00a0at the end of the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> millennium BC. It is unclear from classical sources<sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(b)<\/span><\/sup> exactly what regions the Pelasgians occupied, not to mention when or where they originated.<\/p>\n<p>Some writers such as <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/densusianu-nicolae\/\">Densusianu<\/a> have postulated a Pelasgian Empire extending over a large stretch of central Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Euripides stated that the Pelasgians were later called Danaans.<\/p>\n<p>Spiro N. Konda believes that today&#8217;s Albanians are descendants of the Pelasgians and has written <em>The Albanians and the Pelasgian Problem<\/em> in support of this idea, unfortunately, it is in Albanian, but some of his arguments can be read, in English, online<sup>(a)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/smith-oliver-d-n\/\">Oliver D. Smith <\/a>in his\u00a0book<i> Atlantis in Greece<\/i> identified \u201cthe Pelasgians with both the Atlanteans and prehistoric Athenians \u2013 as two regional tribes at war with each other\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A more radical, highly speculative and quite incredible, alternative definition is offered by <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/marin-minella-schievenin-n\/\">Marin, Minella and Schievenin<\/a><sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/m\/\"><sup>0972<\/sup><\/a><sup>.471]<\/sup>,\u00a0 which is that Pelasgians were refugees from their homeland in Antarctica after its catastrophic destruction. They claim that these refugees were also known as <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/the-titans-amended\/\">Titans<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/tyrrhenia\/\">Tyrrhenians<\/a> and Atlanteans, among other names!<b> <\/b>They also propose that the Pelasgians arrived in Egypt in 10,500 BCE <em>&#8220;led by Osiris\/Menes, and joined the local people, who were indigenous Negroid such as the image engraved in the Sphinx.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>They further claim that anthropology calls them\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/cro-magnon-man\/\">Cro-Magnon!<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/james-bailey\/\">James Bailey<\/a> noted in <em>The God-Kings &amp; the Titans<\/em> <sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/b\/\">149<\/a>.158]<\/sup> that the Pelasgians were equated with the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/sea-peoples\/\">Peoples of the Sea<\/a> in the <em>Cambridge Ancient History<\/em><sup>(c)<\/sup><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&gt;<\/span><\/strong>Lars Karlsson is Professor in Classical Archaeology and Ancient History at Uppsala University and in a 2023 paper<sup>(e)<\/sup> \u00a0he offered the theory <em>&#8220;that the Pelasgians were &#8216;proto-Etruscans&#8217;, since the Pelasgian island of Lemnos has inscriptions in Etruscan.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The degree of confusion surrounding the identity of the Pelasgians is clearly demonstrated in the Wikipedia article on the subject<sup>(d)<\/sup>.<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&lt;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><sup>(a)<\/sup> <a href=\"https:\/\/at001.wordpress.com\/2011\/04\/09\/the-etymology-of-the-names-of-pelasgian-gods-2\/\">https:\/\/at001.wordpress.com\/2011\/04\/09\/the-etymology-of-the-names-of-pelasgian-gods-2\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><sup>(b)<\/sup> <a href=\"https:\/\/stoa.wordpress.com\/2008\/08\/05\/the-pelasgians-in-the-ancient-historians-texts\/\">https:\/\/stoa.wordpress.com\/2008\/08\/05\/the-pelasgians-in-the-ancient-historians-texts\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><sup>(c)<\/sup> <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/in.ernet.dli.2015.283059\/page\/n33\/mode\/2up\">https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/in.ernet.dli.2015.283059\/page\/n33\/mode\/2up<\/a> \u00a0(2nd.
