Guillaume <\/strong>P<\/strong>ostel (1510-1581)<\/strong> was a French linguist and astronomer, who was something of a child prodigy becoming a professor of Arabic at 29, but in \"\"<\/a>later life fell foul of the Inquisition spending most of his last 20 years in prison. He considered France<\/a> to be the kingdom of the \u2018chosen people\u2019!<\/p>\n

Postel, along with many of his contemporaries, considered that America<\/a> had been the home of Atlantis., which he noted on his\u00a01578 world map, Polo aptata Nova Charta Universi<\/em>. In fact, he had already suggested naming the newly discovered American continent<\/a> ‘Atlantis’ as early as 1561 in his Cosmographicae disciplinae compendium\u00a0<\/em>[1651<\/a>]+<\/span><\/strong><\/sup>.<\/p>\n

As a linguist, he was impressed with the similarity of the \u2018Aztl\u00e1n<\/a>\u2019of Mexico<\/a> with the \u2018Atlantis\u2019 of Plato.<\/p>\n
