In 1920<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/main-bibliography\/n-r\/\"><sup>533<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup> he identified Agadir on the Atlantic coast of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/morocco-revised\/\">Morocco<\/a> as the location of the capital city of Atlantis. He suggested that <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/lake-tritonis\/\">Lake Tritonis<\/a> was a large inland sea where the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/chott-el-jerid\/\">chotts<\/a> are today. He also proposed a further large \u2018Inner Lake\u2019 existed across Hauts Plateau in the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/atlas-mountains\/\">Atlas Mountains<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/algeria\/\">Algeria<\/a>. Rutot further identified the island of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/hesperides\/\">Hesperides<\/a> as a large section of what is now mainland Africa, opposite the <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/canary-islands\/\">Canaries<\/a>, and formerly the site of the ancient city of <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantipedia.ie\/samples\/lixus\/\">Lixus<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aim\u00e9-Louis Rutot (1847-1933) was a Belgian archaeologist who wrote extensively on prehistoric civilisation.
